Classes - Workshops - Instruction
Photography is a passion that I love to share with others by teaching workshops, group classes and private lessons. Whether you enjoy landscapes, sports, portraits, macro or high speed sync photography, I'd love to share the techniques I've honed through years of shooting all over the world. See my blog post on why teaching also makes me a better photographer. Some people know how to shoot and may just need a little help with post-processing their images to make them pop. Whatever your photography goals are, I can help you improve your technique while you have fun! IT HAS TO BE FUN!
I've captured hundreds of thousands of images in our national parks and on multiple continents throughout the world. My images have been displayed in 16 exhibitions and in museums three (3) times. I've photographed professional athletes, actors, artists, families, politicians and stunning landscapes. I've made a lot of mistakes along the way and learned quite a bit that I can use to help you. Not only do I teach, but I am still a student. I never stop learning from others. I get stoked when I can pick up a new technique from friends and mentors.
Whether you take classes from me or someone else, I hope you approach your photography as life long learning. We are never "done" -- no one can learn it all in one lifetime.

What People Say About My Classes
"Kevin is an awesome instructor!! I was interested in expanding my Long Exposure techniques and the camera store I frequent, Silvio’s, was offering a class taught by Kevin Gilligan. It was an in-store lecture and discussion class, with a hands-on class the following weekend…which I was super excited about because it's difficult to find hands-on classes offered. After signing up, I was impressed with the level of information Kevin requested from all the students prior to the class. I have taken classes elsewhere, and never heard from the instructor before a class, so it was immediately obvious that he cared about each individual person who had signed up. I had a ton of questions and emailed back and forth with him for a long time…I probably drove him crazy, but he’s very generous with his information and time. I mentioned to him that I was completely uncomfortable with my tripod, necessary for long exposure shooting. He put me at ease and assured me that he would be able to help me with any issues I might have the day of the shoot. I was apprehensive but optimistic. His lecture was great, Kevin is very friendly and at ease, super enthusiastic, informative and knowledgeable, thorough and detailed in his presentation, and created an environment where questions and discussion were welcome. I am an intermediate level photographer (at best) and there were ALL LEVELS of students in attendance, even a couple with very little to no shooting experience. The hands on class was the same, it was a lot of fun! More importantly, I was able to put to practice what I had learned in the lecture with some greatly appreciated guidance. Kevin made sure there were other qualified professional photographers at the shoot to help us, but I noticed he made a point to spend time with each individual person in the class. He is also very inter-active on social media with his students, encouraging the sharing of photos related to the class and offering even more pointers…and posts several helpful articles about photography. Thanks to Kevin, I conquered my fear of my tripod, and am now able to take beautiful creamy, milky long exposures…which is exactly what I had wanted to learn to be able to do!! I would highly recommend taking any class that Kevin teaches, you won’t be disappointed!!" - KF
"I really enjoyed myself at this morning's class. I got a chance to implement your teaching points and came away with tips that I can use in the future. I also like how you spent time with every participant, not once but multiple times... One of the best classes I've attended. I'm signing up for your newsletter!" - KH
“I definitely plan to take more classes and love how Kevin caters to the objectives of his students. Even in a group setting, he will work one-on-one with you to understand your current skill level and what is required to achieve the results you truly desire. “ - PP
"I can honestly say Kevin Gilligan has made me a better photographer!! I had previously taken a class with Kevin and came across another opportunity he was offering. This time it was a Macro and High Speed Sync class - offered in a very fun and creative environment, a brew tasting pub. Macro photography was next on my list of techniques to learn, and having had a great experience with Kevin as an instructor before, I signed up immediately. I am an intermediate level photographer, but had zero Macro experience, and no understanding of HSS photography. I let him know this in the email questionnaire he sent out prior to the class but he assured me that all levels were welcome. The class was amazing!! There were 3 stations set up, one for Macro shots, one for HSS shots and one for Lighting Techniques. It was unlike any class I had ever attended, he put a lot of thought into each station to ensure all of us a great experience. He gave a detailed and thorough lecture for about an hour and focused on the major points of each technique. Then we got to practice shoot, it was a ton of fun! Kevin always makes sure to have several qualified professional photographers at his classes to assist with the hands-on part, so everyone gets the help they need and any questions answered. But again, like in the first class I took with him, he made sure to spend personal time with every one of this students. It was very cool to be able to learn so many new things all in one class, at a very affordable rate…all while drinking beer! (if you wanted to). HIs classes are super fun, informative and creative, and I always learn exactly what I sign up for. You can’t go wrong with Kevin as your photography instructor, you will learn a lot and have a great time doing it!!" - KF
