UFC Champion, Anderson "Spider" Silva

Anderson Silva is a Brazilian Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) champion who holds the record for most title defenses in UFC history. Many have called him the greatest MMA fighter of all time. After breaking his leg in a fight he was out for a year healing and training. In January of 2015, he courageously returned to the ring in UFC 183, beating challenger Nick Diaz. I had a chance to meet the champ during a photo shoot with celebrity sweat as a second shooter for celebrity photographer and fellow Tamron Image Master, Hernan Rodriguez. This was a really fun shoot for me as it combined two of my passions, photography and MMA. Thanks Hernan for inviting me!

I created this shot for my client Triton MMA. I love the intensity on the model's face.

My surfing images were published in Popular Photography in a story about Tamron's amazing 150-600 telephoto. I love this lens! Incredible reach and an incredible value. This lens goes for around $1300 USD, whereas the Canon 600 f/4 is approximately $13,000 USD. I use this lens for all my outdoor sports and have terrific results. It is best to use a monopod or tripod when shooting images that are far away, and then turn off the vibration compensation. You can handhold this baby (and use the vibration compensation, which is excellent) but you don't want to it all day.

I love to shoot sports photography (especially surfing photography in L.A.'s South Bay) with the long reach of the Tamron 150-600.

Robert Lambert of Silicon Beach surfers paddles into a wave at El Porto. This image was taken from approximately 100 yards away with the Tamron 150-600. The details and clarity are fantastic. For this shot, I used my tripod, a Canon 7D, and the Tamron 150-600 at 600 mm (960 in 35mm) at f/8.
