Read MoreDeep into the "Narrows" in Zion National Park, Utah.
This image was taken several hours into a hike upriver in the world-famous Zion Narrows. Although this water was only ankle deep, I had to trek through water that was waist deep to get to this point. Since it was November and chilly, I rented a dry suit up to my chest, water shoes, a walking stick and a very large dry bag to cover my photography gear. This is among the best hikes in the entire US National Park system. It can only be hiked when there is no chance of rain. The towering Navajo Sandstone walls reach heights of 1000' feet, but do not absorb any water. Consequently, a flash flood miles away can be deadly.

Manhattan Beach Pier #2, El Nino, March 3, 2016
The recent storms have provided amazing clouds, light and waves for photography. In this image, I chose a wider perspective with the Tamron 35 mm f/1.8, and a bit of slower shutter speed to show the movement in the water.
Robbie Keane of Los Angeles Galaxy celebrates after scoring.
Ok, I admit it. I am a really big fan of Robbie Keane of the Los Angeles Galaxy. He's a great player, he's Irish, and he's a gentleman. What more could you want? He's also tough, coming back from multiple injuries and still playing well.

Huc Bridge, Hoan Keim Lake, Hanoi Vietnam
Night view of the Huc Bridge on Hoan Kiem Lake meaning "Lake of the Returned Sword" located in the historic center of Hanoi, the Capital of Vietnam. According to legend emperor Lo Li was boating on the lake when a Golden Turtle God surfaced and asked for his magic sword. Loi concluded that the Turtle God had come to reclaim the magic sword (said to give a super human strength) that a local dragon god had given Loi earlier in his revolt against the Chinese Ming Dynasty. The lake was renamed to commemorate this event. Canon 7D, Tamron 24-70, 0.3 sec at f/8.0. 38 mm, ISO 500.
First light, Rocky Mountain National Park
This was my first stop of the day after driving almost two hours from Denver. I got to the Rocky Mountain Park gates at 5:30 am, they were open, entrance was free, and the park was pitch black. I drove down a long, narrow, windy, dark road for 20 minutes. Then I hiked in the dark with my Pelican headlamp up a trail to get this shot. Unfortunately, my ballhead fell off my tripod so I had to improvise on rocks to steady this shot! It all worked out, and I'm delighted with this result. Getting up very early was critical to get the still water in this shot.
