Sunset Surfers, Torrance Beach
Untitled photo

My visual perspective grew out of a love of the ocean, surfing and swimming. Growing up on NY's Long Island Sound and now living in L.A.'s South Bay I have a keen appreciation for beautiful ocean, beach, and water landscapes and portraits. My interests are eclectic. Art, portraits and sports photography, especially martial arts and surfing are also near and dear to my heart. I've been a surfer for almost 20 years, and have been doing martial arts for nearly 30 years, holding black belts in Krav Maga and Tae Kwon Do. I am a member of the Professional Photographers Association of America and read avidly about photography and photo technology. I've judged a number of national photography competitions hosted by ViewBug and Tamron among others. I'm constantly striving to improve my knowledge and abilities. I also love to travel and explore new places. You can view my images from Ireland, PanamaVietnam by clicking on the links. I've photographed the Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles and multiple Major League Soccer (MLS) matches. I've also been featured on a number of podcasts including with photography luminary Skip Cohen. My work has been in over 25 group exhibitions, and three solo shows, Elements in 2015, Deliberations in 2017, and Developing Men in 2019. See my exhibits for more info on that. Recently, I began photographing Los Angeles from the air. I love the perspective. You can see my aerial images of Los Angeles here.

My images have been displayed in museums, photography shows, and published in magazines and newspapers across the United States. In 2020, I received a Bronze Award from the highly-competitive and well-regarded Epson International Pano Awards for my image of The Three Towers in Patagonia. There were almost 6,000 images from 96 countries in the competition. In October 2019, my third solo exhibit "Developing Men" was exhibited at the Resin Gallery in Hermosa Beach, and consisted of 30 portraits, written word, and a documentary. The subject of Developing Men was "A contemporary examination of male friendship, masculinity, isolation, community and legacy,"  critical themes for our time. The show themes were powerful and well received. The exhibit was reviewed by The Daily Breeze newspaper, Spectrum Cable, and UCLA's Alumni magazine.

In May of 2015, I exhibited 27 images in a solo photography show in Redondo Beach "Elements: Sea-Air-Land." Over 250 people attended the exhibit. Photo industry leader Skip Cohen and I did a three part blog and podcast about the show. In the fall of 2015 and 2016, I photographed the L.A. Galaxy professional soccer team. In December of 2015, retailer Kit and Ace installed a 10' print of one of my landscape images in their new El Segundo store. In 2014, my surfing images were featured by Popular Photography, and my landscapes were featured in the CA 101 exhibit in Redondo Beach, California. In 2013, my wave photography was featured in the Torrance Art Museum, and in the CA101 exhibit in Redondo Beach. In 2012, the Laguna Art Museum displayed my images and published them in a catalog featuring the works of painter and sculptor Victor Hugo Zayas. I photographed the entire process used by Mr. Zayas to transform guns into sculptures. The guns, acquired via LAPD's gun buy-back program, were transformed into powerful works of art by Mr. Zayas. His sculptures garnered world-wide media attention. Please see my published photos gallery.

I photograph family portraits, sports, art and special events in the Los Angeles region.  I have photographed well-known actors, artists, politicians, babies and all kinds of families. I have kids of my own and am very relaxed around young children. I love to photograph at the beach to take advantage of the wonderful light at sunset and natural beauty of Southern California. I also photograph studio portraits and head shots if you need a more traditional setting.

My portraits include a pre-shoot consultation, local travel time within the South Bay, up to three hours of post production editing and re-touching, creation of a private on-line gallery to view and select your images, post-shoot consultation, and image delivery. Prints of all kinds (canvas, metal, you name it, are available on my site from the top professional print-labs). Contact me for my hourly, half-day and day rates.

Surfing photo-shoots - I regularly photograph surfers including the Silicon Beach LA Surf crew along the L.A. coast, and love it. I will meet you in the South Bay just as the morning light comes over the horizon and capture you and up to three of your friends for an hour. I can shoot other times, but if you surf, you already know the early am tends to be best.  I'll shoot the images with Tamron's amazing 150-600mm telephoto lens which lets me capture great images of you even when you are 100 yards outside waiting for your next ride. I'll edit the images and create an online gallery for the images.  The surfers have a blast and love to feature the images I capture on their social media. Special events - If you have a special event you want me to photograph, please contact me by email.

I have photographed art exhibits and installations, professional sports, press conferences, parties, graduations and many other special events. Additional packages and services are available by request.  If you want to discuss whether my services and skills are a good fit for your project please send me an email and I will get back to you as soon as possible. I promise it will be a low-key discussion, with no hard sales pitch. Really! I promise. Please contact me about custom pricing for commercial work, special events and sport photography. Thank you for visiting and come back soon as I change the galleries frequently.

Tamron Inc. is a leading manufacturer of photography lenses, and I've photographed with their great "glass" for years. They are a great company to work with and I am grateful for all of their support. In 2012, Tamron USA began featuring my work in their professional photographer series. In 2014, I was selected as a Tamron Image Master. My images are regularly featured in Tamron's national newsletters, they have helped sponsor my exhibits and hired me to help teach their Night Photography workshop in Yellowstone in 2016, in conjunction with National Parks Media.

Tamron makes award-winning sharp, versatile lenses which are a terrific value. The 10-24 is great for capturing ultra wide-angle landscapes. The 18-270 is a wonderful all in one lens and an incredible value, it has recently been updated by the 16-300 pzd which is sharper, faster and smaller.  The 90 mm macro is razor sharp! I especially love their 24-70 2.8. Almost all of these lenses have vibration compensation (VC) which comes in handy while hand-holding or shooting video.  I recently acquired the new Tamron 150-600 mm super zoom lens and I love it. In 2015, Tamron added the amazing SP 15-30 f/2.8, which I use for many landscapes. The 15-30 has been winning accolades for incredible sharpness. The reach is perfect for shooting surfing and soccer, and the compression at the long end allows me to create interesting and unexpected landscape images.

Manfrotto is a leading worldwide manufacturer of tripods, camera and lighting equipment for professional photographers.  I've used their ball-heads and monopods for years. Their equipment is rock-solid and durable. In 2015, I was selected as  a Manfrotto Ambassador and am very pleased and humbled to be among this very select group of amazing photographers. You can view my profile by clicking here.

I am now partnering with NISI filters because they make high quality glass and holders for long exposure photography. I love to shoot and teach others how to do long exposure photography. Silky water, smooth clouds and star trails add drama to well composed photographs and make them stand out, all while being fun to shoot. After trying a number of filter systems, I was pleased to learn about Nisi. Their glass is top of the line, does not leave a nasty color cast, and their filter holders are sturdy and easy to use. I teach workshops with Nisi Filters. If you are interested in learning how to use them, or want to purchase them, send an email to me as I am now a distributor for them.

Pelican Products makes world-class protective cases for photographers, and I am pleased to have them as a sponsor. Their hard cases protect my gear whether I am traveling locally or around the world. Pelican also makes great flashlights and other gear used by everyone from emergency responders to the military.

Would you like to learn more about photography or post-processing in a one on one or small group session? I love photography and really enjoy sharing that passion with others. Recently, I taught a wonderful Night Skies Photography Workshop to 26 students with Tamron lenses and the National Parks Media Group in Yellowstone National Park. I also teach locally in the South Bay. Email me for more info:

"Kevin and I collaborated on a photography shoot at the beach. He was easy to work with, communicated regularly during the shot planning process and delivered great final images much faster than we'd anticipated. I look forward to working with Kevin again."  Anthony Galloway, Executive Producer, Vice Media

"Kevin did some great custom photography work for our website a few years ago so when it came to decorating our new law offices we contacted him for some ideas. We are big fans of all of Kevin’s photo works and decided to focus on a South Bay theme since that is our primary client base. Kevin came through for us by coming to our offices to personally evaluate the space and our interests and presented us a portfolio of great photos: so many that we had a difficult time narrowing them down to the several we liked the most. Kevin personally delivered our selections and helped us in selecting the best spots for each of them. Our attorneys, staff and clients are all very pleased with the results. We have the utmost regard for Kevin and his work and we highly recommend him." Ray Seto, Esquire

"Kevin took wonderful portraits of me and my family. The process was relaxed and professional, and the results were outstanding. As an actor, I've dealt with many photographers over the years and working with Kevin was simply terrific. I highly recommend him."   Ned Vaughn, Actor/Director

"Kevin is a pleasure to work with and I highly recommend his surfing photography and landscapes. I hired Kevin for multiple surfing photo shoots for our surfing group Silicon Beach L.A. Surfers. Kevin made the photo shoot process fun and easy, and he was able to capture great action shots of our crew. (It definitely helps that he's a surfer) His editing and shot selection made us look great. Kevin's work was so good, that we made him our official group photographer." Robert Lambert, Co-Founder, Silicon Beach LA

"We loved the images Kevin created of our family and would definitely recommend his great skills and services to anyone." Ted Lieu (U.S. House of Representatives - CA) and Betty Lieu, Torrance, CA

"Kevin made the entire process - from the photo shoot to the delivery of the final image - incredibly easy and I'm thrilled with the results! He created the exact image I had in mind." Jackie, Redondo Beach, CA

"Kevin is an amazing photographer. We have entrusted Kevin to memorialize some of our most important family moments and he has consistently exceeded our expectations. Kevin has the innate ability to bring out the best in surroundings and enhance those settings to present the best photographs possible." Rita, Los Angeles, California

“Kevin's passion as a photographer is clearly evident in his work. Kevin photographed our two young children and let the camera tell their stories. The photos are fresh, alive and evoke great emotion. Lily's and Ryan's images show truth, honesty and who they are, while running and playing or in a quiet place in their own thoughts, rather than in a staged setting. The photos are refreshing and real and are the centerpiece of our home. In addition, Kevin is an accomplished landscape photographer. His attention to light, framing and detail are impeccable and the end results are breathtaking. We have one of Kevin's beach photos in our home and it truly captures the calm and beauty of Hermosa Beach. Even on a cold and wintery day in Connecticut we can feel the sun and warmth from this photograph.” Laurie and John, Darien, CT

“I purchased a great beach landscape of a lifeguard tower from Kevin. He is a photographer from (L.A.’s) South Bay. I highly recommend Kevin and his amazing images!” Leanne, Redondo Beach, CA

“I bought my husband one of Kevin’s framed and matted photographs and he LOVES the picture, and I mean LOVES it. I think this is my most successful birthday present ever and I have Kevin to thank for it. We're already arguing over where to hang it (at home or his office). Thank you so much!” Candice, Torrance, CA
